The It Gets Better Project
Created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach – if they can just get through their teen years. The It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone — and it WILL get better.

 
Emotional Health

  • 7 Cups connects you to caring listeners for free emotional support.
  • Crisis Text Line is available for free 24 hours/7 days a week. Trained crisis counselors are available for any crisis. 
  • The Jason Foundation is dedicated to the prevention of the “Silent Epidemic” of youth suicide through educational and awareness programs that equip young people, educators/youth workers and parents with the tools and resources to help identify and assist at-risk youth.
  • Mind Your Mind is a place for youth and emerging adults to access info, resources and tools during tough times.
  • TEEN LINE is a confidential telephone helpline and online chat for teenaged callers. TEEN LINE is an affiliated program of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center ‘s Department of Psychiatry.
  • TRIO-EOC Educational Opportunity Center locally based out of Lawrence, Kansas helps to counsel on career, educational, and financial aid topics. Representatives from TRIO-EOC are even hosting events at the library to help with FAFSA.

  • From growing up to getting braces, popping pimples to catching some ZZZs, Teens Health – Body gives you the basics on your changing body – from head to toe.
  • Teens Health – Food & Fitness also gives you the lowdown on healthy eats, dieting, strength training, eating disorders, steroids, and more.
  • Girls Health has lots of information about your body, fitness, and nutritions.

 
College & Career Assistance

TRIO College & Career Assistance

Tuesdays | 1-6pm | CoLab Room E

TRIO Education Opportunity staff assist with financial aid applications, school application, career exploration, GED referral and English as a Second Language referral. All services are free. The KU TRIO Education Opportunity Center is a federally funded college access program available to U.S. Citizens or permanent residents who:

  • are interested in enrolling in technical school, vocational school, community college or college/university;
  • live in Douglas, Shawnee or Wyandotte counties; and
  • have low to moderate household income or have parents who do not have a 4-year college or university degree.
