The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is a busy and popular community destination. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to read, meeting with a school group, or using your laptop to write an assignment, discover the best study spaces at your library.

 

Best quiet space for studying alone: North Reading Room

  •  the library's only quiet zone, no talking or cell phones
  • large tables with built in lamps 
  • electrical outlets for laptops
  • drinks with lids and snacks are permitted
  • wireless Internet access provided throughout library

Quiet Study Area, North Reading Room

 

Best private study space: Study Rooms

  • reservable up to a week in advance at http://sam.tscpl.org
  • one computer, four chairs
  • use of the computer secures use of the room for 2 hours per day per person
  • private room, door can be left open or closed
  • popular with groups practicing presentations and families with small children

Best study space for local history or genealogy research: Topeka Room

  • emphasis on genealogy and local research
  • located on the second floor
  • no food or drink allowed
  • ornate decor, with practical study tables

 Best group study: Reference Room

  • Tables feature electrical outlets for laptops
  • Talking and cell phone use permitted
  • Tables have 2-4 chairs
  • Close to Reference Desk for librarian assistance as needed

  • large tables allow for spreading out study materials
  • current magazines and newspaper available to read
  • drinks with lids and snacks permitted
  • quieter room, with windows overlooking busier room
  • comfortable chairs nearby

  • natural light from large windows
  • surrounded by artwork and book collections
  • oversized chairs, small tables
  • drinks with lids and snacks permitted
  • talking and cell phones permitted
