Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Children can travel the world without leaving town by participating in our Book a Trip: READ! fall reading program.
Participants will not only can learn about fascinating, far away places, but also earn a chance to win exciting prizes, including tickets to Disney on Ice, Nov. 27 through 29 at the Kansas Expocentre.
Fall reading began Sept. 19, but it’s not too late to read your way to Disney on Ice – a value of more than $100 for a family of four.
More than 100 children are already reading. Kids can pick up their reading logs from the Youth Services desk inside the library.
Librarian Luanne Webb explains how fall reading is different than our summer reading program.
“Kids have more control. Working with their parents, they can pick their own reading goals. There is no minimum amount they have to read, and they can read whatever they like” she said.
Among the other incentives to read: Some readers will receive gift cards from Barnes and Nobel, and each person who turns in a reading log will earn a prize bag and free book.
Staff has a number of activities planned at the library to enhance kids’ worldly travels, including:
The grand prize drawing will occur at our fall reading ending party, Play Around the World at 2 p.m. Nov. 8. Kids can get involved in games popular in different countries.
The last day to pick up a reading log is Sat. Oct. 31.
Don’t know what books to start with? Luanne has some helpful hints here.
