Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

Friends of the Library Online Book Store

image

Better than a bibliophile’s garage sale, the Friends of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library’s online bookstore offers out-of-print and hard-to-find titles. Plus, some oddities mixed in there too.

Consider the three Gs: Good finds, good prices, goodwill. You can feel good about your purchase because proceeds support the library’s programs and services.

Visit frequently because new items get added regularly.

From rare fiction books, such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Illustrated by Norman Rockwell (1936) to nonfiction, such as the out-of-print The Art of Walt Disney (1973) - a collector’s must-have - the bookstore has something for everyone. Here are some of the books the online bookstore has to offer.

How often can you say you own a piece of Topeka’s history? Those who know of the world-renown psychiatrist Karl Menninger, who co-founded Topeka’s now-closed Menninger Clinic, may want to pick up a signed copy of Menninger’s book The Human Mind (1930).

A Century of Indian book jacketA 140-page collectible photo book called “A Century of Indian” (2001) shows vibrant photographs of the Indian brand motorcycle. The book was a companion piece to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame’s exhibit of the same name.

The Complete Encyclopedia of Illustration (2003) shows 12,000 detailed engravings that are copyright-free and clearly reproducible. This is a source book for designers and artists showing 19th century work in 600-plus pages.

The book store has a 1st edition (1954) copy of “The Pogo Stepmother Goose,” a fun and visual book. This nostalgic paperback contains fairy tales, parables, alliteration and poetry in its 70 pages. If this one is gone, the book store has several other Pogo books, including The Incompleat Pogo and POGO (1951).

Considered one of the Murrow Boys, Ernie Pyle worked as a war correspondent during World War II. He was awarded the 1944 Pulitzer Prize for distinguished war correspondence. Read about him and see tons of rare photographs in “An Ernie Pyle Album - Indiana to le Shima” (1946).

Thanks for shopping. Come back again.
