Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

Library’s annual book sale – Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Lighthouse art

Ever wonder what 100,000 books look like?

Visit the 38th annual Friends of the Library Book Sale Sept. 18 through 20 in the Kansas Expocentre Agriculture Hall and find out.

About 25 volunteers have worked 12 months to plan the sale, sort through donations and package 2,000 boxes of books and other merchandise. About 125 volunteers will set up tables of books that await shoppers when the doors open Friday night.

Remember, Friday is a "members only" event, but if you are not a member, individual($15) and family memberships($25) will be sold at the door. By becoming a member you also get the library magazine, connectnow, mailed to you.

The sale is scheduled for 6-9pm, Friday, 9am-5pm Saturday and 1-5pm Sunday.

This annual event attracts about 4,000 shoppers and has garnered a lot of attention for our community, as well as surrounding areas and out of state. The lighthouse image used last year promoted the book sale so successfully that it has returned this year.

Book saleThis huge sale will include books, records, CDs, DVDs, VHSs and magazines, as well as first editions, signed books, collectible volumes and historical books. We are also selling some of the more rare and collectible books in our online book store.

This is a family friendly event. We have books for all ages, and children will love shopping for their own books.

Paperback lovers, this sale is for you too. We have many well-known authors and book titles at very reasonable prices.

Funds from the Friends of the Library Book Sale are used to support the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library.

See you there!

This year, the Fun Committee, members of the staff appointed to encourage comaraderie among the staff, is sponsoring the Bakesale at the Booksale.  We will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and baked goods. Spend the day browsing the books and other materials, and eating dinner with us on Friday, or breakfast and lunch on Saturday.
