Topeka Room

Topeka Room

The Topeka Room at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library contains books and other materials written, illustrated, produced, or published by Topekans or about Topeka and Shawnee County history.

Some of our most popular items are yearbooks from Topeka high schools and Washburn University, and Topeka City Directories from 1870 to the present.

The Topeka Room is also home to an extensive vertical file collection which covers topics like Topeka and Shawnee County people, schools, businesses, churches, and neighborhoods. Many of the furnishings in the Topeka Room, including the 1871 Chickering Square Grand Piano, the Victorian settees, the 1908 Grandfather clock, and the large stained glass window, were donated by local residents.
