Message: This secret is deadly Deadly Little Secret by Laurie Faria Stolarz Camelia’s once boring life has turned into her own personal horror movie. A stalker is sending her ominous photos, leaving her creepy presents, and breaking into her house. People that she used to trust are acting weird and Camelia doesn’t know who to turn to. In the midst of all this danger, she finds herself drawn to a gorgeous boy with a shady past that involved the death of his ex-girlfriend. Deadly Little Secret kept me up late reading to find out what would happen next and the identity of the mysterious stalker. It’s a very exciting and well crafted novel. There are short chapters written from the stalker’s point of view mixed in, and the peeks into his disturbed mind gave me chills. I liked all of the characters, especially Camelia’s goofy friends and her dangerous crush, Ben. One thing that bothered me about this book was that it had some noticeably similar plot points to Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The tone of Deadly Little Secret is much darker and the story goes in a very different direction, so it made me wonder if the author did it on purpose to provide a different spin on a similar beginning. Ben and Camelia meet when he saves her from being hit by a car in their high school parking lot, they’re lab partners and he rudely ignores her, and she falls in love with him even though he could be a threat to her life. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of all of these similarities, but I did enjoy Deadly Little Secret and will probably read the sequel, Deadly Little Lies, when it comes out!Check out this awesome book trailer made by the film students at the University of Texas: http://www.tscpl.org/teens/comments/this_secret_is_deadly/
