The Year My Sister Got Lucky by Aimee Freedman

Katie Wilder loves her life in New York City.  She and her older sister, Michaela, are dancers at a prestigious ballet school and have a ton of friends.  Their lives are filled with art, culture and excitement- until their parents decide that the family should move to the middle of nowhere.  Can this city girl survive in the country?

Attacked by bugs and appalled by the flannel-wearing snobs at school, Katie does NOT like her new home.  All she wants to do is talk to her city friends and hang out with her sister.  But Michaela has other plans, and soon turns into a social butterfly with a gorgeous new boyfriend.  The Year My Sister Got Lucky is a sweet, thoughtful story about growing up and apart from the people and things that you love.  I really liked the realistic interactions between the sisters and their complicated relationship.  Friedman really captures the love, frustration, jealousy, and loyalty that passes between them.  This book is a good pick for fans of Sarah Dessen and is a very enjoyable read.
