20below which is featured in the Topeka Capital Journal reports on the new driver’s license restriction for teens.

Starting Jan. 1, 2010, teens will have different rules for getting their driver’s license.  Kansas is the next to the last state to implement GDL (graduated driver’s license). The new rules require 12 months restricted license, no use of cell phones while driving and not allowing teens to drive after 9 p.m.

Jordan Thompson, a sophomore at Shawnee Heights High School, said “I think it’s somewhat legit because there’s a lot of accidents caused by teenagers.” Kansas Department of Transportation reports 6 percent of Kansas drivers are teens but cause 21 percent of the accidents in Kansas.
