Hammering and pounding, metal shelves clanging, the dull thud of books on carts, the squeak of book ends being adjusted…
If our teen customers are back at school, why is such a racket of noise coming out of David J’s Place on this otherwise quiet Tuesday morning?
The answer is: rearranging furniture!
“We have three goals with this rearrangement,” shared LeAnn Sevy, Youth Services Supervisor. “By moving the shelving, we are opening up the collections and making them more accessible. Moving the seating to the back of the room should minimize noise echoing out into the hallway.”
“Our third goal is to designate two types of spaces for teens using the library. David J’s Place is for book collections and small groups. The Edge is for activities and large groups,” said Sevy.
This exciting change kicks off the new school year here at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library. Come in to enjoy the quiet setting of David J’s Place while you choose some great books, or head down to The Edge to hang out with friends, play games and have fun. It’s your library!
Here are some photos of the finished project:
Have you seen the new arrangement at David J’s Place? What is your favorite area of the library and why?
