Professor Stacey Fox, an emergent technology guru at KU ,will be providing tutelage to teens in virtual world environments during Teen Tech Week (March 8-15) and spring break for area schools (March 16-22).
Basic Animation. Are you curious about how animated objects move? Ever wonder how a flag waves or an avatar climbs a wall? Fox will teach the basics of animation using Qavimator software. In honor of Teen Tech Week The Edge will be used exclusively for the Basic Animation workshops on Sundays, March 8 & 15 from 1:00-2:30 pm. Respectful spectators are welcome; but no gaming will be allowed during the workshop.
Basic Second Life. Looking for something to do during spring break? Learn the basics in 3D virtual world. Create your avatar; choose an appearance; learn how to be mobile. Possibly import the animation you created during the Basic Animation workshops. Teleport to GeoWorlds where the wonders of Earth Science awaits your exploration. Developers of GeoWorlds, Dr. Caroline Davies UMKC , Department of Geo Sciences, and Dr.Donna Russell, UMKC School of Education and members of the Second Lifers Club will assist Professor Fox during the workshops. The Edge will be used exclusively for the Basic Second Life workshops on March 16,17,18,19 from 11:00 am-12:30 pm. Respectful spectators are welcome; but no gaming will be allowed during the workshop.
Fox is no stranger to teens at TSCPL. In the past she has provided Claymation and Second Life workshops. She also assisted in the editing of The Birth of a Teen Activity Center, a video about the implementation of The Edge. She is currently the developing virtual islands for the KU School of Fine Arts and KU Spencer Art Museum.
