Alice In Wonderland/Teen Second Life Essay

Technology is an integral part of today’s world. Through my involvement with Teen Second Life, I have learned what 3-D animation is all about, advanced technologically, learned to appreciate technology, and learned to cope with its difficulties.

 Through 3-D animation I have learned that creativity is an important part of the learning process. If you aren’t creative, don’t change anything, or experiment you cannot learn, simply because everything stays the same. Our class has learned to incorporate academics into technology. Technology is such an important part of today’s world that you must learn how to use it to be successful. 3-D animation is not only used for entertainment, but for engineering and design. You can use this software to make a 3-D life-like model of a building or structure. You can also use it for hazardous job training. You could adapt this to make a 3-D layout of a battle field and give that to the commanding officer to be more efficient and minimize allied casualties.

 I have advanced technologically through this software. I have learned how to use a computer grid system, like where to place objects to build complex structures. By using basic geometric shapes, I have learned how to create complex structure and series of structures using this software. As well, I learned quite bit about how to write and modify scripts. All of these skills could prepare me for a job in the future.

 I also learned to appreciate how hard 3-D animation is, how fast technology is changing, and the amount of money it takes to keep it efficient. I used to think that making an animated movie would be easy, but through this project I have learned to think differently. I have realized how fast technology is changing because some systems require you to download system updates often. One of the most important things I believe I got from this though is how to be creative, and how to solve problems creatively if something isn’t working the way I planned. This project also gave the group an appreciation for how much technology like this costs.

Our group has learned how to cope with a few things through this project. We have learned to cope with technological difficulties such as adjusting scripts when they aren’t working. It also allowed us to learn how to deal with slow computers and work through frustration and anger. It also showed the class how time consuming engineering and designing through computer programming can be. We are always surprised by how fast the time has gone by when we are working.

 So through doing this project I have learned what 3-D animation is all about. I have advanced technologically. I have learned to explore some new frontiers and to cope with some of the difficulties of those new frontiers.
