How to Start a Band

image

Blog entry by Chandler Hollon

how to make a band:

First, you need to know how to play 1 of 3 instruments, electric, bass, or drums. Then, gather up any friends that play any of the previously mentioned instruments, or want to play them. then you must have practices, even though you may not have the instruments yet, you should still get together to discuss things, like, when are practices, how are you going to pay off instruments. And another thing. you should ALL pay for everyone’s instruments. this doesn’t sound very good, but some get more money than others.

Then, when everything is paid off, everyone should make a song. do this often, so you’ll be ready to sell CD’s. write songs, practice, play together, practice, write more songs, and practice a little more. after you can play 5 songs you wrote perfectly, then look into buying a CD burner. and get some kind of recorder that records onto tape, or any memory card, like a flash drive or SD card. once you can play at least 10 songs you wrote with no mistakes, you’ll be able to make your first CD. They have special stickers you can print designs or pictures onto and stick them on a CD. Make many of these before you sell them, and give out teasers  and samples for free. nobody wants to buy a CD from a new band and think they won’t like it.

wait a few years before your first concert. don’t do it right away, or not many people will come. you’ve got to get them hooked on to you and your music. just think, either nobody there at a concert when you play right away, or a whole room full of people screaming and shouting and wanting your autograph. To get people hooked faster, and when you think your ready, but don’t think many people are hooked, then it is time to advertise. get pictures of the band and put designs on posters, and hang the posters (with permission from the store owner) on store windows. If you don’t ask for permission, it’ll be teared down.

Hi Chandler,
Thank you for this information.  I sent your blog to my son who is interested in starting a band.

You have lots of good advice.
