Hail Caesar rules

image

Hail Caesar by Thu-Huong Ha

Everyone loves John Miller.  Guys respect him for being a star basketball player, girls want to date him because he’s gorgeous, and even the teachers are charmed by him. His nickname is even Caesar because he completely rules Laurence High School.

Caesar thinks that he’s living the dream until Eva shows up.  She’s not impressed by his social status, which intrigues him enough to start pursuing her.  Their relationship is the center of this novel and it sends Caesar’s perfect world into a tailspin.  Eva forces him to think about who he is as a person beyond his ripped muscles and alluring smile.

Thu-Huong Ha wrote this book when she was only fifteen, and the dialog and voice of the story seem very true to life.  There is a lot of bad language and some sexual situations, but it feels accurate and adds to Caesar's experiences.  This book reminded me of the movie John Tucker Must Die, but told from the perspective of the cool, player guy instead of the jilted girls.
