Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is under construction on Oz Island. Yes, there will be a rabbit hole, a pool of tears and the Queen’s Croquet-Ground.
Nineteen students from Ms. Sanders’ classes at Shawnee Heights Middle School (SHMS) have been studying the fantasy novel by Lewis Carroll. At the completion of the literature unit in mid March, Kansas University Art Professor Stacey Fox and Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library (TSCPL) Young Adult Librarian Jean Gardner provided technical workshops and brainstorming sessions with the classes in the school’s media center. Then last week the students, Ms Sanders and Professor Fox had a day-long field trip and work session at TSCPL . Before arriving they had laid-out their grid and planned a set for each chapter. Each student’s avatars will be characters from the story with Ms. Sanders as the Queen of Hearts. Watch this space for feature articles as the chapters develop.
