5 Haunted Places in Topeka

image

Highland Park High School reported in their school newspaper, The Bagpiper, five Topeka places that are haunted. The well known Rochester Cemetery has had a long time reputation for being haunted by the Albino Woman. Gather several of your friends and visit the cemetery after dark. You might see a very pale woman dressed in white tending the graves.

Topeka High School has had several ghost spottings. An underground tunnel has been reported to lead to a hidden cemetery. Rumors have circulated that if you are alone you might have a conversation with a ghost or other strange occurrences might occur.

The most haunted place in Kansas is considered to be the former Trinity Methodist Church at 16th and Harrison. People say it is possessed by the devil. Screaming and a little girl crying have been heard by the owner and several others.

The state capital building has also been listed as a good place to see a ghost. A mentally handicapped woman died after jumping from the top of the capital. Now, at night,  you can hear her moaning and screaming.

Of course, the former insane asylum is on the list of haunted buildings. The Topeka State Hospital (as pictured) was open from 1914 to 1997 and is now owned by 50l School district. Apparitions, voices and music have been heard coming from the buildings. There is a cemetery on the grounds where 1,157 people are buried, 95% of them are unmarked. Even the local PD are hesitant about patroling the grounds. Read more about haunted places in Kansas.
