When planning our current Books Outside the Binding exhibit in the Sabatini Gallery, curators Brea Black and Zan Popp suggested filming a demonstration at the University of Kansas. This is our very first video!

It's exciting to curate an exhibit of the newest, best, most innovative art in the country. It's even more exciting when that exhibit gets recognized by people in the art profession.
The Printed Image 2 is a national juried art competition for printmakers, and was hosted simultaneously at the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery and the Mulvane Art Museum. In the October 2008 Review, Carla Tilghman wrote a thorough, honest and compelling review of the exhibit.

Kansas Impressions
This exhibit honors Beth Skoog, and celebrates some of the first artists in Topeka who worked in European traditions. As we were planning the exhibit, Beth's husband, Ralph Skoog, asked "Wouldn't it be great for people to know that we've had really good artists in Topeka for a hundred years, that the artists who are working now aren't a new thing?" ... Today was fun. I got to hang out with cool people and talk about art and build eye muscles.

Ingredients: (1) pine cone, (1) rock, (1) sea shell, a miniature Bible open to Acts 9:1-28 and a man cupping something in his hands circles
around and around a small track while a wooden wheel rotates clockwise near the electrical cord.
Manhattan (Kansas) artist Marc Berghaus' kinetic sculpture entitled Pilgrim, has people asking, "what's it about?"

The Printed Image 2 is our national, biennial, juried graphics exhibit. It was established in 2006 and features emerging and veteran printmakers from across the United States using both traditional and breakthrough techniques. This year's show is diverse and visually stunning.
