Healing Music

Have you ever thought about the music in your everyday life and how it effects you? Research has shown that music is tied to the emotional and physical circuitry of our brains and therefore affects how we feel, both positively and negatively. Spend some time learning about music’s impact on the body and what you can do about it.

Harping for Hospice
Music has been used for millennia as a tool for healing. Live harp music is provided at the patient’s bedside to create a healing and calming environment and to assist in the death transition. Join TSCPL’s own harper to look and discuss harping at the bedside of hospice residents.

Wicca/Paganism
Wicca is one of the fastest growing religions in America. This program takes a look at the pre-Christian roots of the modern Craft movement, what it does (and does NOT) do. Jim is a long time practitioner/teacher who also serves on the board of Interfaith of Topeka.

Bio:
Born and raised in Iowa, Jim was a music performance major (Voice and Oboe) at Pittsburg State University. He has since earned a Master and a Doctorate degree in Metaphysics (MscD - His thesis and dissertation on the healing aspects of music are available for viewing in the Topeka Room of the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library.) as well as receiving his ministerial certificate from the International Metaphysical Ministry. Jim has been employed by the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library since 1986 and has worked many of the public service desks including: Periodicals, Reference, Genealogy/Special Collections/Topeka Room, and now Red Carpet Services where, along with his other duties, plays harp at the bedside of Hospice and palliative care residents.

Dr Mosher continues to be a professional musician, playing oboe and English horn in the Topeka Symphony Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Castle & Cross Consort, Topeka’s unique Early music ensemble, and the Topeka Woodwind Quintet.

Actively playing solo harp, his performances include weddings, receptions, programming for churches and retirement communities, the Kansas City Renaissance Festival and the Great Plains Renaissance Festival. He is working toward becoming a Certified Music Practitioner through the Music for Healing and Transition Program.

Jim has been active in the Pagan/Wiccan community since 1990 and serves as liaison to the Interfaith Council of Topeka. He received his 3rd Degree initiation in 2004 and serves as High Priest for MoonShadow Coven of Topeka.
