Art at the Library
This exhibit traces the history of art collecting at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, shows examples of some of the first purchases and display spaces, and underscores the visionary role the Library has played, since its conception, in valuing art and arts education in a public library context. Aviary is for artists of all genres: writers, musicians, game designers, photographers—OMG!
I just got my beta invitation and spent about an hour playing around this morning. The site looks INCREDIBLE.
Don't be intimidated. Aviary was designed to accomodate hobbiests to professionals. It is a "suite of rich internet applications (RIAs) geared for artists of all genres. From image editing to typography to music to 3D to video, they have a tool for everything. Their goal is to create a complex ecosystem for artists and provide the world with free, capable collaborative tools and an approach to collaboration and rights management that will turn the marketplace for online art on its head".
Art for everyone: Design and the Elastic Mind
Biojewelry made from donated bone cells. Body modification for love. Free-hand sketches drawn in the air, captured by video and instantly materialized. Fabric built 3-dimensionally, layer by layer on a computer. Victimless leather. Health labs on a card in your pocket. Housing and city planning based on six-sided nanoparticle growth patterns. Furniture design that mimics the human body's ability to generate bone to support different areas of pressure. Mapping neighborhoods that yeild higher levels of social injustice and incarceration. Internet dating site data made into individual portraits that can be perfected and changed by the viewer.
Prepare to be amazed!
