Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

Musical Outreach For Hospice Patients - Video

image

In the Red Carpet Department we not only provide outreach services by delivering books, movies, and other library materials to the citizens of the Topeka and Shawnee County area who are unable to come to the library, but we are also constantly looking for ways to provide other services to our clientele. Jim, who is a member of the Red Carpet Staff, also plays the harp, and has begun harnessing this talent in a way that has proven to be beneficial to several members of the population we serve. Watch the video below to learn more about Jim and this service he provides.

His music soothed my mind during a hectic day at work. I can only imagine what he does for hospice patients. What a service Jim provides to the community! Thanks for bringing more exposure to it through this video, which is very well done, btw.

Jim is a healer. He helped me many times through the years, as I was struggling with health issues. Anytime you have an opportunity to hear him play, do so, and you’ll be truly blessed. I’m proud to call Jim my friend.

My mother looked forward to Jim’s hospice visits and his music every week, and my family is forever grateful that he played for her the night she died and at her funeral.  It was a special gift and I know it eased her transition as well as comforting us.

Knowing Jim personally and having met his harp (which I fondly named “Tristan”), I am aware of his wonderful musical skills and healing qualities. Bravo to Jim for offering this service to those in need.

I do have one other comment I would like to make… as a Deaf person, the video is not accessible for me - is there any way to add captions to the video? I know this can be done, although I personally am not knowledgeable of how to go about doing it (I could probably provide you with some resources, tho).

That is an excellent point, Virginia, about captioning.  I will look into getting that done and let you know when it is completed.
