Here in Kansas, storms can produce tornados, flooding, and other damaging effects that cause prolonged power outages and other emergencies. Therefore, it is important to be prepared for any emergency when it arises. Fortunately, the Visiting Nurses Association has created an online tool to help older adults create a free personalized emergency disaster plan by filling out a survey. To get a personalized ready checklist based on your needs, fill out the survey at VNAReadySerniors.org.
I was curious to see how the survey process went so I decided to try it. The survey did not ask for any specific personal information such as your name, address, e-mail, or telephone. It asked general yes and no questions about topics like medications being taken, food and other supplies you currently have, and your family or neighbors living in the area. When the survey was finished, I was provided a ready checklist to help me prepare for a disaster based on my needs. It also gave me a specific emergency supply checklist and an emergency information card to fill out. Overall, I was pleased with the results and thought it was very easy to use. Try it and see if you’re prepared. VNAReadySeniors.org
