Is there going to be a way for users to put in a request for a DVD or Game, as right now most games are always checked out, I believe because some one returns it and then goes back and checks it out again.

Unfortunately, the DVD Dispenser does not have the capability to handle requests in the traditional library sense (like for books and movies). With the current model, customers can choose from any available games at the time. The good news is that the library has just ordered many additional games for the DVD Dispenser and they will be added over the next few months as they arrive. Hopefully that will lead to an increase in selection when you are browsing the DVD Dispenser Catalog.

What’s up with you? Do you have any suggestions for games for the DVD Dispenser?

Oh man!
It’s always really hard to get the games I want! They’re always checked out!
I think there should be a limit on how many times you can check a certain game out. Like 2 times every 2 months, or something.

Since the question was raised twice, I did some research to try to determine if checking out the same game multiple times in a row by the same customer is an issue. From the fifty games I checked at random, only one time did I find that the same customer had checked out the game twice in a row. Based on that figure, I don’t believe that customers checking out the same game repeatedly is currently a problem. More than likely, the games are just very popular. Since the gaming collection is new at the library, we started with a small number of titles. In 2009, we will be adding more titles, and also adding some additional copies of popular titles. If you would like to suggest a title for purchase for the library’s collection, use this Purchase Suggestion form.

Are there movies available?  The DVD Dispenser seems to contain nothing but games.

Great question Jay—the DVD Dispenser does currently only contain video games, but in the next few weeks the library will be adding DVD movies as well, in late March or April 2009. Keep checking the DVD Dispenser catalog, or watch for updates on the library website for more information about when the Express movies will be added to the DVD Dispenser.

The library still plans to add new movie DVDs to the DVD Dispenser in late March or early April, keep checking the library website or the DVD Dispenser catalog for updates and an announcement when they are added!

Is there a way to check from home what items are checked out from the dvd dispenser on an individuals card??????????

Sherri - good question! You can check that from the DVD Dispenser catalog by logging in with your barcode and PIN. On the first screen after you log in, there will be a link to the Items currently checked out. You can also check that information from within the My Account section on the library’s online catalog at http://catalog.tscpl.org if you login with your barcode and PIN. Hope this helps!

The lines are long at the dispenser and the staff are not usually available to help the people who need assistance with a problem they encounter while attempting to use the DVD dispenser.I believe it would be a fantastic service to have a library representative located near the dispenser at all hours the library is open, this may minimize the wait time as well for those of us in line.

Dear Mr. Ray,

Thank you for your comment about the DVD dispenser. As part of our strategic plan, we are investigating the best ways to deploy our staff to provide the best and most efficient customer service throughout the building. Our library and the media room in particular are increasingly busy. One of the reasons we purchased the DVD dispenser is to encourage self service for our customers, but we know that things don’t always go smoothly with every transaction. You can always go to the media desk for assistance with the dispenser. We will take your recommendation into consideration as we assess the best way to serve our customers in the media room.

What upset me about the dispenser that I sat for ever waiting for titles to be returned in hopes of getting a good movie only to find the movies that i did get already on the shelf. Hey and how about a Dispenser for games and one for movies that should cut the lines in half!!!!!

Just a suggestion about having a library representative near the dispenser—I think it would be more efficient that if you can’t get one close to the dispenser which is understandable it would be great to have a button to push for help located on the machine or in the programming screen. This way when the line is very lengthy someone could assistant immediately.
