It was all Seussical at the library May 6

Karen Godfrey, Vice President of Kansas National Education Association and chairperson for the "Read Across America" program showed kids all about the type of poetry Seuss if famous for.


The audience escpecially enjoyed a short performance by the The Topeka Civic Theatre & Academy, Theatre for Young Audience’s from their  Seussical the Musical.

To end the evening  kids played games and created fun Seuss crafts. Read on to see videos.

Communities Thrive Green Fair

Enjoy the Communities Thrive Green Fair on Saturday April 17th, 2-5pm in Marvin Auditorium at the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library.

  • Visit over two dozen informational booths from local organizations
  • Make a "doughnut" toy from a recycled sock for your cat or a shelter cat to enjoy
  • Plant a veggie garden with the Master Gardeners
  • Make a cornstarch peanut sculpture
  • Create a Litter Critter
  • Enjoy musical entertainment in the library's rotunda
  • Learn about the water cycle and make a bead bracelet with a fun game.

Review New Books at TSCPL

While customers may review any book in the library's collection, some advanced reader copies of recently or soon to be published books are made available to potential reviewers at the library's Reference Desk each month.

National Novel Editing Month Events

Topeka is celebrating National Novel Editing Month this March and the library is hosting three programs to help writers become editors of their own novels!

Kickoff: Editing Your Novel
You’ve written a novel; now learn how to edit your own writing. Professional writer and editor Morgan Chilson, owner of Exactly Write, offers editing tips and talks about the top manuscript mistakes and steps to overcome them.
Saturday, February 20 2:00–3:00 pm in Marvin Auditorium 101B

The official goal of National Novel Editing Month is to spend at least 50 hours editing your novel during the month of March, but anyone interested in editing their novel is welcome to participate.
