The DVD Dispenser

image

What is that big metal box?
The DVD Dispenser gives customers access to the newest and most popular DVDs and games. This new service allows people to search the dispenser catalog from home, place holds on titles they want and pick them up that same day. Customers can be assured that what they place on hold will be waiting for them. The entire process is quick and easy; instructions are available.

Which items are in the DVD Dispenser?
Located in the library’s New Books, Movies and Music section, the DVD Dispenser was introduced to help customers locate and check out new DVD and video game titles. The most popular box office hits and smaller critical favorites will be available in the DVD Dispenser. Titles being added in May include The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Taken, and Paul Blart – Mall Cop. Video games for systems including Nintendo Wii, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360 are also available for checkout.

How does it work?
Customers log in to the DVD Dispenser catalog at http://dvd.tscpl.org with their library barcode number and PIN. After browsing available titles, customers can place up to two holds. The items must be picked up within five hours at the DVD Dispenser or the hold will be cancelled automatically. The DVD Dispenser catalog allows customers to browse available DVD Express titles from home, work, school or from a computer at the library. Customers can then select the titles they want and be assured that those titles will be held in the dispenser for them when they arrive at the library.

Why is this better?
The checkout period for movies in the dispenser is three days. This shorter checkout period means that materials will be returned much more frequently and as a result more materials will be available. Because customers return materials directly to the machine, materials are available for others to borrow as soon as they are returned. This also helps free up library staff to work directly with customers. In addition, the DVD Dispenser eliminates theft, which improves the selection and availability of materials to library customers.
