Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Lately, whenever I want to shake off a bad mood or make it through 40 minutes on the treadmill, I play Okkervil River's The Stage Names. It has slowly, stealthily become my favorite record of 2007 (even though it's now 2008). I'd heard and enjoyed Okkervil River's other records, but this most recent record eclipses their previous work. Songwriter Will Sheff writes clever, precise lyrics and the band backs up his words with tremendous energy and melodicism. Each of the nine songs is a standout. The excellent website metacritic.com synthesizes many reviews of The Stage Names if you're interested in finding out what music critics have to say about this instant classic of an album.

Yes, I’ve been listening to that Bon Iver record recently, and I’m liking it. Jagjaguwar is a great little record label.
I just listened to this CD and thought it was great. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
