Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
The library helps share live music with the masses through a new partnership with the Topeka Symphony.
The symphony begins its 64th season at 7:30pm Sat., Sept. 26 when the orchestra takes the stage of White Concert Hall to play the music of Wolfgang Mozart, Aaron Copland and Arthur Honegger. See complete symphony schedule here.
Conductor John Strickler said he hoped the community would come out to the symphony's season debut.
“Mozart. How can you ever go wrong with Mozart? And Aaron Copland, the piece we are doing, 'Appalachian Spring,' is one of his most sublime. It's probably his best known piece,” Strickler said.
Copland's famous ballet, “Appalachian Spring,” was written for a smaller group or chamber orchestra, so 38 musicians will take the stage compared to the regular roster of 80-plus.
The pieces require a lot of finesse from the players, Strickler said.
“The music has to be played very cleanly, and very crystal clear.”
Those in attendance can expect to be taken on an emotional journey through music, from upbeat to mellow to rousing.
Attending the symphony is not the only way people can take a journey through music. Learn about Mozart and his world at the library.
