Learn the Library: Search for Music CDs in the catalog

image

Music CDs are listed in the library catalog as "sound recordings."

Here are some tips for searching for music CDs:

  • If you know the name of the CD, search by TITLE starts with
  • If you know the name of the performer, search by AUTHOR (last, first) and use the performers last name
  • If you know the title of a song, you can use the advanced search, search the song title in TITLE keyword and limit your results to Music
  • If you know the type of music, try searching by SUBJECT

Learn the Library: How are the Music CDs arranged?

The Alpha-Numeric System for Classification of Recordings (ANSCR) system allows sound recordings to be labeled and shelved to offer the most browse ability for customers.

By grouping similar items in music genres or categories, and then arranging by composers and performers within the genre, the arrangement can encourage finding specific items and also the serendipitous discovery of new music through browsing.

ANSCR call numbers consist of four basic lines of information.

International Film Series - The Orphanage

Laura returns to the orphanage she spent time in as a child with her husband Carlos and little boy Simon in hopes of re-establishing it as seaside retreat for children with disabilities only to find there may be some former residents who never left. Nothing is as it seems and child's play takes on sinister overtones.

Topeka Symphony brings diversity to Northeast Kansans

Conductor John Strickler and the musicians of the Topeka Symphony perform "The French Connection" Oct. 24. Find out why the rehearsal shown in the video is only half as good as what you'll hear in person.

Get Lost in Austen

When the movie revealed Mr. Bennet's first name, I laughed out loud along with Amanda Price onscreen. My husband shot me a skeptical look.

“It’s funny.” I explained, then I clarified, “Well, it’s funny if you care.”

And that sums up my assessment of the BBC miniseries Lost in Austen. If you care about the book Pride and Prejudice, if you have read it, if you like it, and especially if you love it, reread it and watch the various movie versions, then this new DVD of a 4 part British miniseries is PERFECT for you.
