If you like stories about giant (70 ft., 42,000 lbs!) prehistoric sharks eating people, mini-subs and other stuff with abandon, you'll love this book and its sequels. MEG; a novel of deep terror by Steve Alten is a whale of a tale. Hero Jonas Taylor, a prehistoric paleoicthyosaurologist, (I made this word up.) discovers the MEG in the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean.
If you're feeling nostalgic for the original Jaws by Peter Benchley, this is great summer reading, even if you're at the beach.

The Lawrence, Kansas sculptor started with what artists call "found objects." That means he scrounged in junkyards for scrap steel and wire. The steel used to be a VW. Artists are great recyclers.

What does it take to survive a plane crash, a bout with cancer, or a brutal attack? Ben Sherwood sets out to investigate the characteristics that bind survivors together. Along the way he truly gets into his work, enduring a military survival school and a simulated airplane crash. Sherwood strings together these...

These bands capture the post-punk, new-Wave sound that epitomized this underground movement.
Thank the 80s for MTV, the compact disc, and those wonderful parachute pants.
Check out some alternative bands the library carries. Other popular music types of the time were hip hop, techno, and house music. Give...

It’s rare that I find a manual that’s been as helpful to me in learning about a new gadget that I’ve purchased.
If you’re like many folks, you use an iPod or iPhone on a daily basis. These handy Missing Manuals provide some much-needed extra instructions that don’t come in the box.

Or, if you’re a sometimes-insomniac you could let the...
