What is Día?

Children's Day/Book Day, also known as El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Día), is a celebration of children, families, and reading held annually on April 30. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Learn more about Día.

How does the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library celebrate Día?

The April fiesta includes book displays, story times with musical games, poetry, and puppet shows; a carnival, animals , art activities, and games with prizes; poetry and art displays from area school children; a concession stand with free food; a raffle; and music and dancing.

April 30th, 2009—El día de los niños/El día de los libros

The 4th annual El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros at the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library was celebrated on April 30, 2009, from 5-7:30 PM in Marvin Auditorium.

Read a brochure in English and Spanish which includes tips on reading to and with children, a list of recommended books, and a list of Web sites for further information.
