Displays in the Rotunda

In April our Visions of the Universe: Four Centuries of Discovery display arrives from The American Library Association, the Space Telescope Science Institute and the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory: In preparation for that Shawnee County 4-Hers studied our Universe /Space theme and put together an amazing exhibit for all to enjoy. Five displays are in the Libraries Rotunda for the next few weeks.

Representing the nearly 400 4-H members enrolled in Shawnee County, teams assembled to create informational displays related to man’s curiosity, creativity, and eventual conquering the beginnings of our relationship of space.  The 4-Hers studied the past knowledge of 400 years to create displays that represented projects that they can enroll in.

Some of those projects that are available to 4-H members are:
• Space Tech, which includes rocketry, astronomy, robotics and telescopes

• Animal Projects, which includes Dogs, Rabbits, and hand pets
• Entomology (bugs)

• Construction Zone, which includes all kinds of building material which can be from a kit, or of the 4-Her’s own design, and can be a building, a thing you can drive or any other construction and can be motorized.

Join the 4-H at the Libraries Lift Off event Wed. April 22 and then for Discover the Universe with 4-H in the Library on Sat, April 25 when we will share with you our fun Jeopardy Learning Boards and will present learning stations for kids.  We will showcase skills we have learned in fun projects like public presentations, shoe box floats, animal dress up, making table displays, and paper or electronic educational Displays.  The 4-Hers that have been involved in our 4-H in the Library program will be joined with many other county members to demonstrate what learning fun our program can provide for kids.  We invite all kids ages 4 thru 11!  We present our program during the school months on the first and third Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m.

What fun 4-H has!  If you are interested in any of these projects, enrollment is open until May 1 for kids 5 to 18.  Check them out at www.shawnee.ksu.edu or contact the Shawnee County extension office at 785-232-0062.
