Computers and Printing
2-hour computer limit
Customers with a valid library card may use computers in the library for two hours each day.
All of our computers are managed by a computer software system called SAM (Smart Access Manager). This ensures everyone has fair and equal access to library computers.
When you login to a computer with your library card barcode and PIN, the computer keeps track of time for you. You may use up to 2 hours per day (all at once, or in several sessions). An on-screen timer will help you keep track of your available time.
Anytime you are asked for your barcode you need to enter all 14 digits without any spaces. Most customers have been automatically assigned a 4-digit PIN that is the last four digits of their telephone number. Customers may update their account information and PIN at the Check-out Desk.
All residents within our reciprocal borrowing area are encouraged to apply for a TSCPL library card. Visitors to our library who are not eligible for a library card may obtain a guest pass at any service desk to access the computers for 2 hours. Guest passes are issued on an individual, daily basis. During very busy times, a sign-up station can assign you to the next available computer, otherwise public computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Certain computers are able to be reserved up to 7 days in advance through the SAM system. Catalog-only computers for searching for library materials are available throughout the library. Five 15-minute express computers are also available and do not require a valid library card to access.
Library cards are not transferrable; each customer must use their own library card to access the computer.
Read the Library's computer use policy.
Computer printing and photocopies
Black and white photocopies are $0.10/page. The library does not have a color photocopier.
You must use your library card to make photocopies. The library does not have a coin-operated copy machine.
Black and white computer prints are $0.10/page. Color computer prints are $.50/page.
The printers and copy machines do not directly accept change or dollar bills. Customers use their library cards to pay for printing and copying. Add value to your account at the Check-out Desk or at the Automatic Payment Machine (APM) in the Copy Center. The APM accepts both coins and bills. The Check-out Desk accepts cash, checks and debit cards.
If you have a “copy card” from the system used prior to August 2007, the stored value can be transferred to your library card. Bring your copy card and your library card to the Check-out Desk.
Money stored on your library card can be redeemed for cash at the APM or the Check-out Desk.
Accessories
3.5 inch floppy disks and USB flash drives can be used with public computers. Floppy disks are available for purchase at the Check-out Desk for $1.00. CD-ROM, Zip disk and other storage devices are not supported.
Speakers are not provided on public computers. Customers may bring their own headphones. Headphones are available for purchase at the Check-out Desk for $2.00.
Wireless Internet Access
The Library has wireless. This service is provided by AT&T. Accessing the wireless network is easy. Locate the network on your laptop computer and accept the statement on the AT&T page and you will be on the Internet. If you have questions, there are brochures at each service desk in the Library. Staff will be able to help on a limited basis. The library does not provide access to printers for laptop users. Laptop customers can save laptop documents on a disk, open the document on a public computer, and then send their job to the print station.
