The library has a new video series - welcome to Tech Tuesdays! There are a few goals with this series:
Let's get started! This first video shows some tools I use pretty much every day to stay connected with other technology librarians.
What tools do YOU use? At work or at home? Let me know!

Cool video David! I use Twitter and Facebook. On social networks like these, it’s not enough to just be a member and post updates. One has to find those good innovators to follow, like you. I also subscribe to USAToday.com’s Technology email news service. Email services like this are available through many different media and news providers, and I would suggest people tap into those. And, people might be surprised how many tutorials they can find out there on YouTube, video.google.com and other video sites. Thanks David for starting this conversation.
Quick question—Could you consider including links to all of the applications you mention in the video in your blog post text?
I really don’t like technology until it has become a necessary part of my life. Once I have a really compelling reason to use it, I do, but I don’t seek out new technology. For example, I didn’t join Facebook until I couldn’t keep up with my sister any other way!
I use a personal blog to keep track of what I read. It helps me remember what I have read, and helps me recommend books to other people (since I’m a librarian, after all!). Now that I have a kid, I also use wordpress, flickr and youtube frequently to help connect our family to our relatives in other states. At work I regularly talk with customers and colleagues in person, on the telephone, through email, through chat and through blog posts and comments.
Technology news is everywhere, I don’t seek it out - my three main sources of technology information are The weekly American Libraries Direct newsletter, the Sci/Tech tab on Google News and stuff other people make an effort to tell me about. Between those three, I am already getting more technology news than I can handle!
Lisa - good point! Thanks for sharing some people and organizations that you follow.
Lissa - yes - great idea. I had meant to do that, but obviously forgot. I’ll do it on next week’s video! And I agree - many people need a reason to start - and once they have that reason, it makes perfect sense (where it might not have before).
