Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
This just came in from the Capitol Tour Center over at the Kansas State Capitol:
We have had a very exciting day here at the capitol! On our 11 am tour we had our 100,000th visitor to the Capitol Dome since January 23, 2006.
His name is Joshua Kale and he is from Moran Kansas. He was here paging for Rep. Otto. He received a gift bag from the Historic Society with some souvenirs and a t-shirt and certificate. Visit Topeka, Inc also donated a VIP bag with gifts from many local merchants. Valerie from KTKA news was here and took photos and interviewed the young man.
He will be on the news tonight. We also received a call from KSNT news and they are going to announce it on the 6 pm news.
Since this was the last day of the month we counted our dome visitors and we had taken 6,038 people up for the month of April. Last April we only took 4,426 people so we served 1,612 more people this April than last and it is only the second day of the new governors’ term!
To set up your own tour of the Kansas State Capitol—including an adventurous climb up the stairs to the top of the dome—visit the capitol tour website. Before you go check out this site from Washburn which has some excellent pictures of what you can expect.
