Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library

Have Fork Will Travel

image

Traveling around the world is one of the most enjoyable hobbies I have.  I've had many memorable adventures in Puerto Rico, Scotland, Spain, Paraguay, Canada, and various states across the U.S.  When I am lacking the funds or time to travel, I utilize the library's travel resources to provide me with a temporary escape.  The library has a wonderful DVD and video collection to browse through along with fascinating travel memoirs and guides.  But out of all the available books and shows, I find myself revisting one particular author and TV host over and over again... Anthony Bourdain.

Anthony Bourdain is the host of the Travel Channel's television series No Reservations.  If you haven't seen it, you should because it is fantastic!  This show combines two of my life passions: food and travel.  Personally, I believe local cuisine is a huge component of culture and by tasting or sharing meals with locals (no matter how strange it may be) one can learn a lot about the traditions of a region.

As seen in his shows, Bourdain has no fear when it comes to travel and will eat anything.  His books, however, are just as enjoyable as his tv series because they capture all the minute details of his crazy adventures.  His writing is entertaining and always paints a vivid image of the countries he is visiting, especially when it comes to the local people and their food.  If you're ready to explore Bourdain and his travels around the world, definitely start with A Cook's Tour: In Search of the Perfect Meal.  You will not be disappointed.

I have seen this show on several occasions and the food always looks really good. If I get a chance I will take a look at his book. Thanks.

I’ve read Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential and it was fantastic.  No Reservations is one of my favorite shows!
