Get your kid a library card

image

Did you know that as soon as your baby is born, she is eligible for a library card?

Bring your baby into the library or a bookmobile to help her apply for her library card. Just like your own grown-up library card, your child's card can be used to check out books, DVDs, music CDs, and more. Since each person must be present to use their own library card, your child will always need to be present when materials are being checked out on her card.

Did you know that the library has all sorts of things for kids, including babies?

From music CDs of lullabies and board books for our youngest patrons to video games, graphic novels and Cliffs Notes for older kids, the library collections are designed to reflect the needs and desires of our community. If you can't find what you or your child want, just askLissa and her daughter Kivrin waiting in line to get Kivrin's first library card.

Lissa's top 5 reasons to get your kid a library card today

1. Keep better track of your child's library materials on their own library account (instead of sharing your account).

2. Encourage your child to becoming a lifelong library user.

3. Teach your child responsibility while they enjoy library materials at home and return them before the due date.

4. Save money by helping your child borrow books, movies and music from the library instead of purchasing them.

5. Since some materials (like DVDs and CDs) have checkout limits, your child can checkout Princess Party and Spongebob Squarepants on their own library card without affecting mom or dad's DVD checkout totals.

Kivrin receives her first library card!

The fine print: According to the library's Circulation Policy and Circulation Guidelines  "Eligible borrowers and users of library materials and services under age 18 are required to provide the name and address of a responsible adult at the time of making application for a library account. Children, unlike adults, may not have access to common forms of ID.  Therefore, they may be allowed to complete an account application without presenting name verification."

Hello Lissa, so pleased to see your baby.  Be a while before she is in to jane Austen.  So glad you are doing well.  Thinking of you and your family.

Thanks Deborah- I had to be sneaky to get Kivrin on the library’s site but her library card provided the perfect opportunity!
