I have been a knitter for many years and there are sweaters I have made that have ended up hidden away in my closet. Why? Well, they just didn't knit up the way I wanted them to. In other words, those sweaters looked bad on me. I came across a new book by Sally Melville called Mother-Daughter Knits. Melville has written many patterns for sweaters. What I didn't know was that she also knows about fit and style.
At the beginning of the book, Melville has a section called knit to flatter. To achieve this Melville employs her formula of length, shape and style with illustrations. She also has a section on how to change a pattern as you are knitting to fit your needs. Whether you need to change the shoulder, the cuff or sleeve, Melville has it all for you with illustrations.
After looking at those first sections, I came to the pattern section of the book. I was a bit disappointed with the patterns. I seem to be a more classical knitter and these patterns are not like that at all. But I will use the information that Melville provided about changing the pattern as well as how to knit a garmet to flatter and use it with other patterns.
If you are looking for some great information on changing a knitting pattern to fit you or someone else this is the book for you. Some of you may like the patterns too. Let me know what you think and keep clicking the needles.
