Hybrid Visions, the Sabatini Gallery's annual exhibit for young people, opened today with a bang.
By noon, 47 people had been through the show and they can't seem to get enough of Nicolas Lampert's machine animal and bug collages. In the activity space, everyone's being encouraged to draw and collage on the walls (they've been made into faux chalkboards so don't wince) and after six hours, um, they're almost full. But, chalkboards erase and that's what we've been doing.
We still have about 15 spots left for tomorrow's collage workshop (all youth ages and parents welcome). If you're out and about at 10 AM, bring everyone down to Marvin Auditorium 101C for Nicolas' workshop. He'll be teaching how he collages and photocopies his make-believe creatures. Then at noon we will kick off the show with a big party for young people with food, drink and an opportunity to meet the artist behind Locust Tank (the huge mural you can see from the moon—just kidding—from the rotunda).
Below are some of our early risers getting busy with chalk, xeroxes, glue and markers this morning. The show's open through July 18, so come by and make some refrigerator masterpieces. Can't make it in? View the exhibit online.
