Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Our volunteers and docents are a diverse group.
Spending time in and around the Sabatini Gallery attracts everyone from students interested in a career in the Arts or Museum field to retirees with a passion for people, enriching conversation and opportunites for personal growth. We welcome a range of interests from greeting and secretarial work to assisting us with filing, data entry, exhibition installation, photographing events and light research.
If you think this might be the place for you, give us a call and we'll go from there. Sign up to work events or a simple daytime desk shift. Hours are relatively flexible.

Here, Zan Popp, Associate Curator and Collections Manager, introduces volunteers and docents to The Journey of Tea exhibit before it opened. This gives everyone a chance to ask questions and become familiar with the exhibits before the show opens to the public.
Margaret (blue dress) is one of our newest volunteers. She started with us in the summer of '07 and always takes time to talk with visitors about our exhibits. We love Margaret!
Jerry has been with us for as long as I can remember. This past year he assisted Zan Popp in researching the history of tea for her exhibit, The Journey of Tea, and gave a presentation to his fellow volunteers before the show opened. He alerted the curator to a fantastic History Channel documentary which ended up as an educational element in the exhibit.
Here he is helping some young students from Washburn Rural sign the photo release form in order for me to take this picture and share it with you—very hectic without help. We love Jerry!
