Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Big Lumpy Sculpture makes its way upstairs for a little fresh air.
Thanks to former Gallery Director Larry Peters' active collection development, generous donor gifts and the Friends of the Library who sponsor considerable annual art purchases, our library has one of the most diverse and exciting 20th-century ceramic arts collections in the country.
These massive pieces are shown less frequently because to move one takes three to four people and to move eleven took four hours and seven people. But, it was time for them to make an appearance. You'll see a wide variety of textures and techniques, glazes and narratives, utilitarian works, as well as—well—big lumpy stuff. We say that jokingly, but to some extent, it's true. Enjoy! Big Lumpy runs June 6–July 18, 2008. Curated by Sherry Best, Gallery Director.
