Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Look who it is!
Our former Library Director has come out of retirement to rally for the arts despite our country's tough economic uncertainty.
From Lawrence.com: "David Leamon is widely-known in Northeast Kansas as the former Executive Director of the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, a post he held from 1992 to 2005. During his tenure, he oversaw the planning, construction and funding for the the new main library. Leamon also led libraries in Tulsa, Seattle and Jackson, Michigan before serving 14 years as the Director of the San Antonio Public Library. There, Leamon was also Director of the Hertzberg Circus Museum, then a part of the Library's holdings and responsibility.
Always a strong supporter and enthusiast of the Arts, Leamon has established public sculptures, promoted art exhibits and competitions, worked to include a Kansas mural by Kansas Artist, Stan Herd in the Topeka library, and he was a leading force behind the creation of the recent Aaron Douglas Mural Project in the historic Tennessee Town in Central Topeka."
Leamon started at the Arts Center on Monday, November 17th. Visit the Lawrence Journal World online here to read more.
