It’s an odd year, and at the Sabatini Gallery that means it’s Topeka Competition time.
Started by former Sabatini Art Gallery Director, Larry Peters, this biennial, national juried competition for artists working 3-dimensionally has entered its 29th “year” (we began hosting this every other year in 2005 to make room for The Printed Image, our even-yeared national printmaking competition).
The Topeka Competition features cutting-edge contemporary work in clay, metal, jewelry, leather, glass, fiber and wood from both emerging and well-established artists from around the country. We invite heavy-hitters (respected artists, art professors or both) to jury the exhibit, and with generous help from Friends of the Library purchase awards we build the Library’s permanent art collection with entries from the competition.
Regardless if you’re a high school student, college undergrad, art teacher or working artist, the Topeka Competition is open to anyone ready to make the move from studio to gallery. Not all work is accepted, but with each new competition comes a new juror and new perspective, and you can never predict who will make the cut.
Deadline for submissions (CDs, entry cards and fees) is June 24, 2009.
Artists interested in entering can get copies of the Prospectus several ways. To have one mailed to you, email gallery@tscpl.org with your contact information or call (785) 580-4515. Or click the TC29 logo below and download the PDF on your computer.
