Topeka Retirement Communities - Hotbed for Competitive Wii Bowling Tournaments
On May 14th, the walls of Lexington Park Retirement Community resounded with cheers, groans, high fives, and lots of laughter as around 50 residents of six Topeka retirement homes gathered for an afternoon of competition and fun. The afternoon was a part of the National Nursing Home Week festivities, with the entry fee being food items collected at each facility. Well over 500 food items filled the entry way, before being distributed to local food banks at Papan’s Landing, LULAC, and East Topeka Senior Centers.
The staff of the library’s Red Carpet Services has experienced first hand the competitive nature of Wii Bowling, barely scratching out two victories to the scrappy Lexington Park “Lexy Cats” this spring.
Red Carpet and Talking Books services bring library resources to 55 assisted living facilities and 86 home-bound patrons.
The Library relies on charitable donations to help underwrite these valued services.
Summerfest Kick-Off
The library welcomed 1,072 children to this year’s Summerfest Summer Reading Program kick-off May 28. With nearly 200 more participants than 2008, it is clear a lot of reading will be enjoyed over the summer in our community.
