Message: Death in the Desert The Mojave Desert is both beautiful and deadly with its extreme temperatures and lack of water. To Officer Frank Flynn of the Bureau of Land Management this is home and though this may seem like a peaceful place where most dangers are from the elements there is still murder. In A Desert Sky Mystery Series by David Sundstrand, Frank is often at odds with the powers to be and feels closer to the land and locals that inhabit this harsh land. In the first book, Shadow of the Raven, Frank discovers a man’s body without boots or a canteen. It’s not long after that a group of bikers come to town looking for someone, and Frank thinks the dead man might be the person they’re looking for. The bikers will stop at nothing, even murder, to find out what happened to their friend, and Frank must somehow solve the mystery and stop the bikers before it’s too late. Shadows of Death, the second mystery, centers on animal rights terrorists. While two poachers are killing burros for fun, a sniper shoots them and leaves a note behind. Frank, who hates the senseless killing of animals, doesn’t really have much sympathy for the dead poachers, but he still has a job to do. Unfortunately, what Frank doesn’t realize is that this sniper isn’t about to stop killing, poacher or not. http://www.tscpl.org/books/comments/death_in_the_desert/
