Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
As part of our Adult Summer Reading Program our participants shared about the books they would recommend to other patrons. Maybe your next great read will be from one of their suggestions!
PETER recommends Gone Away World by Nick Harkaway
My favorite thing about this book is…that it is exceptionally well written, creative, engaging, and un-selfconsciously funny. I’d recommend this to other readers who like… intelligent, funny novels and ninjas.
LINDA recommends Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin
My favorite thing about this book is…you are transported back in time through this book. The reader learns that people are people no matter what their bodies look like. I’d recommend this to other readers who like...to be challenged in their thinking about historical events.
MICHELE recommends Roots by Alex Haley
My favorite thing about this book is…how closely it followed the movie but it added such richness to read it. You could tell so much more what the characters were thinking. I’d recommend this to other readers who like…a book to explain the experience of the slaves in the South during the Civil War era.
ANONYMOUS recommends In Seach of Mockingbird by Loretta Ellsworth
My favorite thing about this book is…I didn’t want to stop reading. I liked how the young girl went in search of her dream.
ANONYMOUS recommends Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
My favorite thing about this book is…how it made me realize how much bullying there is and as a teacher and mother how we need to intervene. I’d recommend this to other readers who like…children and helping others.
The Library’s 2009 Adult Summer Reading Program is over, but be sure to check back with us next year for more summer reading excitement.
