Black Out by Lisa Unger
Annie Powers hasn’t had a black out in several years. Lately, she’s been experiencing the head-splitting headache that signal the possible return of her fugue wanderings. Even though her therapist and her husband say she’s improving, Annie’s not so sure--that is, unless she’s marveling at her young daughter, Victory. Annie wants to embrace this new life with a luxury home, beautiful daughter and loving husband, but Ophelia is ruining it for her. Ophelia’s violent and deeply troubled past has a way of creeping up on Annie. Although the official story is that Ophelia died years ago, a few people know that she still alive and using the assumed name of Annie. Clues have begun to pop up that people know Annie’s secret, and Annie’s safe, new life becomes a deadly hunt for the truth. Annie will have to face her past in order to protect her daughter, but is she strong enough now?
Lisa Unger is one of the rising stars of the thriller genre. Her characters are complex and intriguing. The twists and turns in this thriller kept me on the edge of my seat, as I wondered, along with Annie, if the narrator was losing her mind and who could be trusted to tell the truth. Answers come in unexpected places. View a short teaser for Black Out at Unger’s website or read her biography.
