Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
Whether you are a confirmed “creationist” or a curious “evolutionist” you will find The Jesuit and the Skull by Amir D. Aczel an excellent read. The author is highly skilled in the history of the struggle for man to unlock his existence. He takes the reader on a journey both back in time and in many places to relate discoveries that have highlighted the defense for evolution. However, Aczel also keeps the teachings of the Bible close at hand to emphasize the difficulties faithful believers suffer when forced to deny the literal reading of man’s beginnings.
In “The Jesuit & The Skull” the very holy and very intelligent Jesuit is Teilhard De Chardin, a most unlikely candidate for the role of trouble maker in which he finds himself cast. The Catholic Church and the Jesuit religious order do not appreciate all that Teilhard has to say about his view that there is no problem in combining science and religion. Here is conflict in its highest form, i.e. how can Teilhard bring together his two great loves: his Church and his work?
Mr. Aczel does not take sides in the conflict; he offers a vivid presentation of the two sides so that the reader may see the story in an objective manner and make his own judgment. Here is your opportunity to make an informed opinion while you enjoy the action of history as it unfolds.
