The Dragonbone Chair

image

Simon doesn’t know how to wield a sword or shoot an arrow. He is a kitchen boy so he knows how to do dishes and he loves to day dream. Lucky for him that he also becomes an apprentice to the learned Doctor Morgenes. The world is a much bigger place than Simon realizes. There is the Rimmersgard to the north who were once fierce raiders that attacked and destroyed the seemingly immortal Sithi. In the south is Nabban, a powerful empire in the past, and the great forest, Aldheorte, just to the northeast. Also, in Hayholt castle where Simon lives, the Sithi lived many years before. Simon’s life is just beginning but another is ending. King John is dying. Unfortunately, the new King Elias brings old hatreds and grudges with him causing an uprising and destroying the land. As evil descends, Simon is caught right in the middle of it and must fight for his life.

This is the first book in the series Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn by Tad Williams. First printed in the late 1980’s, this series continues to draw readers into Simon’s world and his fascinating journey. The other books are Stone of Farewell and To Green Angel Tower which is in two parts.
