Welcome to the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library
This derby is not quite as popular as the famous derby that occured this last weekend, but equally it’s exciting, especially for first place winner, Max. Read below to find out about this week’s project and video recommendation from Thad H.
Resource used: How to Build a Champion Pinewood Derby Race Car by Mark Harris (VHS)
For my son Max's first year in Cub Scouts we checked out the video "How to Build a Champion Pinewood Derby Race Car" to help design and build our car for the annual Pinewood Derby. All scouts are given a block of wood, wheels and axles and must create a car out of those materials. The cars are then raced down an elevated track. The video we watched gave some very detailed tips and tricks. We didn't use all of them, but we did use quite a few which were extremely helpful. At the race Max's car won first place for both his den and his pack. Needless to say, he was extremely proud and excited.
Most Helpful: I'm sure we could have gotten a lot of the tips from the internet, but actually seeing the process on the video was extremely valuable.
Would you recommend this resource: Yes
Thanks for sharing your project and congratulations on the victory, Max and Thad!
If you're interested in sharing some of your own creations, fill out the Project Library form and tell us about your completed (or half completed) projects: meals that you've cooked, breads and cookies that you've baked, quilts that you've sewn, volcanoes that you've erupted, papers you've written, babies you've named, pictures you've drawn, rooms that you've decorated, dogs that you've trained, etc. We want to know what did and didn't work for you. Send us some pictures of your work, as well as a brief description and the resources that you used and we'll post your project here in the Project Library column to share with the TSCPL world.
