Halloween is getting close and if you plan on constructing your child’s costume yourself, now’s the time to start brainstorming and buying your supplies. Or, if you’re like me, making costumes for your kids could be something that is year round, not just a Halloween affair.
This week’s project comes from me and my dear friend, Katie, who helped with the craftier bits. We put together a Nacho Libre costume for my son as part of present for his aunt. Most of the parts of the costume were simple store buys, but my friend Katie (who is awesome!) sewed the cape for us. I checked out several books from the library for her to reference and she whipped up what you see below from an amalgamation of the following books:
Quick Costumes for Kids: 30 Great Fancy-Dress Ideas by Deborah House
Nifty, Thrifty, No-Sew Costumes and Props by Carol Ann Bloom
Super-Simple Creative Costumes by Sue Astroth
Kings, Queens, Knights, & Jesters: Making Medieval Costumes by Lynn Edelman Schnurnberger
Many thanks to Katie for helping put together the best wrapped present ever!
If you’re interested in submitting a project fill out the Project Library form and tell us about your completed (or half completed) projects: meals that you’ve cooked , breads and cookies that you’ve baked, quilts that you’ve sewn, volcanoes that you’ve erupted, papers you’ve written, babies you’ve named, pictures you’ve drawn, rooms that you’ve decorated, or dogs that you’ve trained. Send us pictures or video of your library projects, a brief description, and the titles of the books or other library resources that you used to help complete your project and we’ll post them here in the Project Library column.
