On a sunny morning in August 2000 four young American climbers on a trip to the mountains of Kyrgyzstan awoke to the sound of gunshots hitting their cliff tents and the ominous sight of three heavily armed men beckoning for them to come down.  Frightened and confused, Beth, Tommy, John and Jason soon realized they had unknowingly planned their trip in an area that not only had challenging climbs but also dangerous militants intent on terrorizing local shepherds and murdering Kyrgyz soldiers.  In the next few days, the militants forced their American hostages on brutal night marches over rough terrain with little food and water and kept them hidden during the day in torturously small holes.  Most terrifying of all was the nerve-wracking uncertainty: Why were they taken? Where were they going? Would they make it out of there alive?
